Road to Pinar del Rio’s San Antonio Cape Inaugurated
Guantánamo, Jan 25 (CMKS).- The last stretch of the road linking Pinar del Rio city to the Cabo de San Antonio cape, in the westernmost province of Cuba, was officially inaugurated, Granma reported today.Julio Camacho Aguilera, in charge of the project said the 63-Km stretch from La Bajada to
Cabo de San Antonio will facilitate the access to the westernmost point of the island and the
implementation of projects including the construction of some 1,800 rooms in five beaches in
the area. With the new road, a new era for the Guanahacabibes peninsula was opened, as access to the cape was a serious obstacle to the realization of scientific and economic activities.
On his part, foreman Manuel Aldo Pérez explained that the building of this stretch was
particularly hard due to the salt residue, the plagues and the fact that it is far from the
urban areas. Likewise, several hurricanes have hit the region, among them Ivan in 2004 which destroyed 14 kilometers of the road.Source: ACN
