
Preventive work to stop diabetes

He added that at Guantanamo so far reported 44 deaths from diabetes, the fifth cause of mortality in the province, second only to heart disease, malignant neoplasms, cerebrovascular diseases and accidents.
This disease which affects the territory to persons aged 50 years and shows discrete trend mainly females, reaching a prevalence rate of 3.2 per 100 thousand inhabitants, an indicator that corresponds to the national average.
Given the growing number of diabetics in the province and the rest of the country, health promoters, epidemiologists and family doctors intensify prevention efforts and screening to ensure early detection and appropriate treatment setting, depending on the type of diabetes involved follow a strict diet, practice of physical exercises and other measures.
