Prudencio lives in the Cuban countrymen
By: Tony García Corona
Guantánamo, Dec. 30 .- The Cuban farming family loses one of its best sons, with the sudden death of Prudencio Hechavarría Pena, a tireless fighter who dedicated his life to the Revolution and the cause of men and women of the countryside on the island.
Born in Tiguabo 89 years ago, Prudencio was one of the most faithful followers of Lino de las Mercedes Alvarez, author of the slogan LAND OR BLOOD, uncompromising determination of Realengo 18 farmers in the late 30's last century, which served as agricultural demand against the landowners in the country.
He was a delegate to the Farmers´ First Congress, a historic event, convened by the General Command of the Rebel Army, which was a prelude to the radical transformations such as land rights for peasants and other demands of social justice, unthinkable before the first of January 51 years ago.
Prudencio will live in the memory and actions of his people, because he will continue to be an emblematic image to Cuban farmers.
