Guantánamo beat Pineros and is the leader in the East

Guantánamo, Nov. 23 (CMKS) .- Guantánamo, the “sensation” team at the beginning of the baseball season, , beat the Isle of Youth in the weekend sub series and thus ratified its leadership of the Eastern zone. The Indians awoke today for the third consecutive week, as leaders of the East in the 49th National Baseball Championship, thanks to the best league start in the history of that organization.
An impressive record of 15 victories and only two lost it proclaims to every opponent, the daring move of Guantánamo in the contest, and suggests the presence of a new member in the playoffs this season.
The last year a team of that province gained access to the postseason was in 1998, when they were eliminated in the quarterfinal (the best of five games).
Those directed by Agustín Lescaille are followed by a big group, in which only the young and inexperienced Camaguey can be ruled out. The remaining eastern teams will certainly be with no doubt in the fight until the final days of the Series.
Meanwhile in the West, Sancti Spiritus share the leadership with the Lions of Industriales, although the more dissonant note is the 6th position of the current national champion, the Cowboys of La Habana.
Sancti Spiritus, holders of a frightening offensive, seem to advance to qualifying round, and until now it has been showed with their 11 wins in16 games, of them 8 as visiting team.
Industriales, meanwhile, is clearly recovered from the collapse suffered last season, and with a sober game, but not many flashes of greatness, is placed at the top of the West.
The players for La Habana are temporarily out of noble positions of the table, due largely to the offensive deficit shown in the beginning of the campaign.
However, during the coming games they should go up in the ranking, mostly supported by the exceptional pitching and a presumed improvement of their bat men.
The rest of the contestants in the Western area will try to make history, though all will depend rather on the defeats of the big four teams than the virtues of itsplayers.
