Fernando Lugo Greets Fidel and the Cuban people
Guantanamo, Aug 15 (CMKS).-President- elect of Paraguay, Fernando Lugo, sent friendly greetings to the Cuban people, who qualified us as heroic people, because “You have overcome every difficulties”, also for its generous solidarity, when closing a pleasant encounter at the Patriotic Alliance for Change’s headquarters (APC) with José Ramón Machado Ventura, Vice-President of the Council State and Minister.
When referring to Fidel Castro, Lugo said “he symbolized the island’s work, process and real change” and termed Fidel “a Latin American and universal citizen”, whose “spirit and lucidity has always illuminated, encouraged and motivated us for a possible change in Latin America”.
“Five years ago I asked to Fidel in Asuncion, if a dawn would be possible in Paraguay and the Leader of the Revolution assured that its brightness were coming.”
“There were just five years later for that historical moment of victory for the forces’ coalition headed by President Fernando Lugo”, said Machado Ventura during his standing ovation speech, and he was interrupted by expressions like: “Cuba, Cuba, Cuba, the people greet you”, “Long Live Cuba!”, “Long Live Fidel!”, at the National Council of Sports’ areas, in this capital.
During last years 435 Paraguayans have been graduated in Cuban collages, among them 339 physicians at Latin American Medical School (ELAM) whereas 874 “children of the humblest families” are presently studying on the Caribbean island.
Machado Ventura, who leads the island’s delegation, reiterated his country’s will of enhancing collaboration concerning health care and education programs among others with Paraguay.

The Cuban delegation also includes Fernando Remírez de Estenoz, member of the Party Secretariat; Alejandro González Galiano, deputy foreign affairs minister; and Deputy Reverend Raúl Suárez, president of the National Assembly Cuba-Paraguay Friendship Group.Source: RHC
